I thoroughly enjoyed my final year undergraduate project at the University of Essex, where I worked on CD14 and TL4R receptors in human monocytic cells under the guidance of Prof. Nelson Fernandez. Here I received strong support and encouragement to pursue a career in science.
Subsequently, I pursued my doctoral studies at the University of Birmingham, joining Dr. Tim Knowles' group. During my PhD, I employed biochemical and biophysical techniques to investigate putative lipid transport systems in the predatory bacterium Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus. Through this research, I developed a keen interest in cryo-electron microscopy and, during the final year of my PhD, I had the privilege of conducting research in Prof. Jose Maria Carazo's lab at CNB-CISIC in Madrid. There I gained invaluable expertise in advanced cryo-EM data processing with a particular focus on characterising protein flexibility.
In July 2023, I joined the Lau Lab as a postdoctoral researcher. My current focus centres around investigating microtubule binding proteins in the Plasmodium falciparum parasite.
